The process of the artist’s creativity is always covered with a flair of mystery for the uninitiated. How is the idea born? How does the idea translate into the material? What reflections, searches, doubts accompany the artist in his work?
The film about the sculptor Andrey Ostashov was not intended to give clear answers to these eternal questions, but rather to shed light on the inner world of the author, which is usually closed to outsiders and finds its way out only through his works. This short video serves as a meaningful addition to the project" The Secret of the Minotaur "of the ArtPort Gallery and can become a starting point for the viewer to reflect on the sculptures of Andrey Ostashov, their connection with myths and symbols, an opportunity to get deeper into the idea and tune in to the perception of beauty.
The artist’s universe remains a mystery, even for him. In the process of creating a work of art, there comes a moment when it begins to live its own life, already independent of the creative will of the author. Then the creative potential passes to the viewer: an attentive and open observer has the opportunity to become a co-author of the sculptor, to reveal their own meanings and interpretations in the object of art, which may differ from the original intentions of the author. But it is the possibility of an infinite number of interpretations, according to Schelling, that distinguishes an authentic work of art.
We invite you to become a participant in a confidential conversation between the artist and the viewer, to hear his innermost thoughts and experiences, to follow how the plot seen in real life acquires plastic completeness and rises to the level of a symbol, and the momentary situation becomes an expression of something universal.
