The works of Andrey Ostashov are often compared to those of H.R. Giger. However, while experiencing his influence, Ostashov engages in a continuous dialogue with the Swiss "Dark Genius." While he may quote Giger’s facial aesthetics or convey a similar state of hopeless resignation, Ostashov invariably finds harmony and beauty within the world.
The Twins is one of Ostashov’s most enigmatic sculptures. The author has joined the two sisters in such a way that a third image emerges from the negative space between them. He has arrested the diverging movement of the girls by binding their left knees together. On one ankle and just above it, three buttons are visible; on the other, there are four. The girls' legs form a mysterious ideogram that invites the viewer to decipher its meaning.
The viewer is left with questions but no definitive answers. No singular concept is offered; instead, by contemplating the sculpture, the viewer enters a state of co-creation—which is precisely one of the artist’s most vital objectives.
