The image of the Spanish Gypsy, the heroine of Merimee's novella, is as succinct as possible. Spain is shown through its symbols - a fan and an arched foot, frozen in a typical flamenco pas. Unruly locks reflect a freedom-loving character of the heroine as well as the eternal Gypsy motif of a nomadic, chaotic life full of unpredictable events. The lithograph “Carmen” is in the collection of the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus.
